The 7 Habits of Happy Kids

This is a school-wide initiative!  The 7 Habits of Happy Kids is written by Sean Covey, son of author Stephen Covey (The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People) and is aimed at elementary school age readers.  The book is composed of seven short stories with a colorful crew of characters!  The stories teach the reader about each of the 7 habits by using nonfiction characters.

Teachers use the 7 habits, along with other resources, to teach children about these skills that are so important to becoming leaders. The 7 Habits are also featured on our weekly school news program! Classroom guidance lessons are focused on the 7 Habits as well. The kids love the book, use the language, and refer to the skills on a daily basis.  It's amazing to see!

The 7 Habits are:

Habit 1: Be Proactive
Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind
Habit 3: Put First Things First
Habit 4: Think Win-Win
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood
Habit 6: Synergize
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw

Not only do our students succeed socially using these skills, but academically as well.  The book teaches them to take ownership for their learning and to be self-assessing.

A great resource to check out on the 7 Habits is
